The Bond and Tea Store Apartments – Main Works

Project Facts

  • Heritage Building over 100 years old

  • Working around occupied apartments

  • Awkward access and space constraints, with out-of-square existing structures

  • Steel Weight: 158 Tonnes

  • Client: Black Dog Construction/Kensway Consulting

  • Location: 8-10 Egmont Street, Wellington Central

  • Consultant: Slivester Clark

  • Petone Engineering was involved in the first stage of the strengthening work on this building, which is made up of brick, concrete, timber and steel, and is now working on the main seismic upgrade project.

  • The steelwork needed to fit in with both the original construction of the building and more recently seismic upgrade attempts.

Petone Engineering performed an initial strengthening of the apartments to secure the building until the full upgrade could be performed.

This is now the final upgrade and contains some brackets that weigh more than 1000kg. This is a challenge as there is no crane or Hiab options available, and the steel will have to be positioned and lifted manually using dollies and chain hoists.

  • “We found the forward planning, attention to detail and focus on our project delivered from Petone Engineering to be exceptional. The team involved worked extremely well with other trades as well as being respectful and approachable by our clients when working within their space. I am more than happy to continue working with this professional Engineering Company and have recommended them to other clients and contractors as the ideal solution to any project”

“Cheers Speros, client has expressed their satisfaction with all staff and looking forward to involving you in the next phases”
